After the Roc Trip at the Gunks, Tony Lamiche went to Rumney with friends, and he sent “The Fly”, one of the hardest route in the world (9a / 5.14d). It took him three days to link it !!

  2. first of all: i don´t know the route and i respect tony lamiche very much! but why does he climb it toprope? there are some bolts as far as i can see. is it too risky?
    no flaming intended. i don´t have his potential and will most definitely never climb this difficult. just a question that came up watching.

  5. David,

    I believe most have climbed the Fly on toprope, and a couple have bouldered it with crashpads as protection. Based on the caliber of the people who have climbed it, I think clipping as you go isn’t possible/safe. AKA it is safer to bail onto a pile of pads than try to lead it.
